The Cambria County Redevelopment Authority awarded bids Thursday that will improve recreation in one community and sewer service and roadways in two others.
Capital Construction Inc. of Windber was the low bidder at $50,899 for construction of a playground facility in Scalp Level.
“Basically, what we’re looking at is renovation of the existing playground facility, construction of play activity zones, play structures and benches,” said Larry Custer, authority executive director.
Part of the work also includes accessibility improvements for the handicapped.
Custer said $25,000 of the playground cost will be covered by a grant from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the remainder from federal stimulus funds.
Federal stimulus funds and state Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) entitlement money will be used to pay the $58,764 contract awarded to Claycomb Excavating of New Enterprise for work in Jackson Township.
The company will extend the municipal sewer collection line by about 1,170 feet on Loraine Road.
Part of the project will be laterals and service connections to seven homes and installa-tion of four manholes, Custer said.
HRI Inc. of State College was awarded a contract of $62,484 to pave Church Street in Sidman.
The money will come from CDBG entitlement and stimulus funds.
