Funds, workers needed to build ramp
WINDBER – Bears Quest 4 Rest, a Windber charity, is seeking donations of building materials and labor to build a second ramp for a Windber amputee who lost both legs due to cancer.
Doug “Bear” Updyke, who founded the charity, said that with the help of a couple of private donations, a donation from The Home Depot and some friends, the group completed a side ramp to Ted Thomas’ home but the ramp is accessible only during fair weather. A ramp on the front of the home would be accessible all year but would be more difficult and costlier to build, Updyke said.
