UPDATE: Shooter gets lengthy prison term in Oakhurst murder

EBENSBURG — A Cambria County judge this morning sentenced a Philadelphia man to the maximum term allowable by law in the 2011 shooting death of a New York area man in the Oakhurst Homes housing project in Johnstown.

Emotions ran high as Marquis “G” Neal, 31,  was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in state prison for the shooting death of J-Quan “Scar” Lewis, 21.

Anthony “Mack” Harvey, 29, a cousin of Neal’s and the man authorities say drove Neal to and from Oakhurst Home on Oct. 1, 2011 was sentenced to seven years and 10 months to 25 years for his role.

Originally charged with first-degree murder, the two were convicted in January of lesser crimes.

A jury convicted Neal of third degree murder and related charges while Harvey was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and related charges.

The mother of the victim, Evelyn Lewis, 50, of Queens, N.Y., offered emotional statements prior to the sentencing of each man.

She called the victim her best friend and said that while the families of Neal and Harvey will be able to see and spend time with them, she never again will see her son.
