3 charged with stealing from vehicles

— Three Johnstown-area men were charged this week with stealing electronics valued at nearly $500 from unlocked vehicles in Southmont and Westmont boroughs.

Two of the men were caught as they wandered around trying to remember where they parked their car, West Hills Regional Police said.

Dylan James Piurkowsky, 18, of the 100 block of Peach Avenue; Maximilian P. Pheasant, 20, of the 100 block of M Street; and Daniel L. Schrock, 21, of the 300 block of Arthur Street, were charged with theft from a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit theft, receiving stolen property, and loitering and prowling at nighttime.

In a court document, police said they were called to a Diamond Boulevard home around 6 a.m. June 11 on a report of three suspicious men trying to enter a locked vehicle.

Officer Thomas Dowdell said two of the men walked away after the car alarm sounded. One man was caught at the scene after he was identified by the car’s owner, Dowdell said.

The other two were found a short time later meandering at State Street and Diamond Boulevard.

“They got lost and couldn’t find their car,” Dowdell said.

The three are accused of taking a radar detector, two Garmin GPS units, a DVD player and two pairs of sunglasses from vehicles on State, Orchard and Arlington streets in Southmont and Lehigh Street in Westmont.

The three suspects were charged before District Judge John Barron of Upper Yoder Township.
