A fundraiser and kickoff for a Greater Johnstown “WalkWorks” program is scheduled for tonight at Heritage Discovery Center on Broad Street.
The event, to be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the center’s fourth-floor Ethnic Social Club, benefits a program designed to “increase opportunities for walking in local communities,” organizers said.
A $5 admission charge includes food, refreshments and a raffle ticket for prizes including Pittsburgh Penguins tickets, Johnstown Area Heritage Association museum passes and Johnstown Farmers Market gift certificates.
Partners in the project include Lift Johnstown, the City of Johns-town, the state Department of Health, Conemaugh Health System and the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. More information is available at www.pawalkworks.com.
East Wheatfield sets meeting on crime
ARMAGH – East Wheatfield Township supervisors have scheduled a meeting on the local crime situation. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 28 at the Armagh and East Wheatfield fire hall.
Residents have complained about rising crime and wondered about the feasibility of establishing a police force, which supervisors have said is not affordable. All options will be discussed.
