A ceremony Wednesday will celebrate the sale of three shuttered Johnstown churches to a nonprofit that has plans to preserve the historic buildings.
The public is invited at noon to the former Immaculate Conception church at 300 Broad St. in the Cambria City neighborhood.
Music and church bells will ring out to mark the transfer of Immaculate Conception, St. Columba and SS. Casimir
& Emerich to Jennerstown-based 1901 Church Inc.
“We hope the public will join us for the celebration,” said Teresa Marafino, president of 1901 Church and producer at Mountain Playhouse in Jennerstown.
“Our plans are to turn these beautiful buildings into facilities that the public will be able to use and enjoy, and we won’t be able to do that without help from the residents of Greater Johnstown,” Marafino said.
