Altoona woman dies while trying to avoid deer

BELLWOOD — An Altoona woman died this morning when she swerved her Chevy Lumina to miss a deer on old Route 220 and the car wrapped around a metal utility pole.

State troopers said Patti Jo Miller, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene by Blair County Coroner Patty Ross. Miller was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

The wreck occurred near an interchange with Interstate 99.
