JOHNSTOWN — West Hills Regional Police are asking the public’s help in finding a man who made off with items valued at $1,300 in a daring daytime burglary at a Southmont Borough home.
They also are seeking a woman accused of selling some of the stolen items at a pawn shop.
Police said James Thomas Williams, 42, of Southmont Boulevard, burglarized another home on that street on March 8.
It was a “clear-cut, brazen, daylight burglary,” West Hills police Sgt. George Musulin III said. “He kicked the door in and ransacked the entire house.”
Police said Williams carried away gaming equipment, a laptop computer, a 311⁄2-inch flat-screen television, a quilt and other items in a large storage tub, which he also stole.
“He was observed by a mail carrier walking down the street with the storage container,” Musulin said. “He was having trouble carrying it.”
Williams caused more than $1,600 damage to the door, wall and flooring of the home, police said.
They also are looking for his girlfriend, 31-year-old Jamie Lee Weigle.
Some of the stolen items were recovered from a local pawn shop where Weigle had showed the owner her Pennsylvania driver’s license, police said.
Officers found Wil-liams and Weigle on Friday at their apartment, where other stolen items were recovered.
Williams told police he had sold the television and laptop to friends. He offered to find the items and give them back.
When Williams failed to return the items, police obtained arrest warrants for him and Weigle.
Williams is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities and criminal mischief.
Weigle is charged with dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities, receiving stolen property and giving false reports to law enforcement authorities.
