NEW – Fundraising event for artist postponed

JOHNSTOWN — A tribute event for the late Mark Parrish originally scheduled for Sunday has been postponed, organizers said.

The combined wake and benefit will be rescheduled soon and held in early summer.

Parrish, a well-known local artist, died March 7 at Windber Hospice.

“We’re not cancelling it, merely postponing it,” said Wesley Layton, who is organizing the event with his fiancee, Brianna France.

“We’re delaying it until after (Parrish’s) estate is settled,” Layton said. “At this point, we’re looking at the end of May or the beginning of June.”

Layton said a new date will be announced once plans are set.

The event, to be held at Ace’s in Johnstown’s Cambria City neighborhood, will feature raffles, sales of prints of Parrish’s work and performances by local bands.

“This delay does give us the advantage of getting reproductions of his works made, instead of just taking orders,” Layton said.
