Reade receives $117,325 grant for ambulance

BLANDBURG — The Reade Area Ambulance Association in northeastern Cambria County has been awarded a $117,325 grant from the federal Department of Homeland Security for a new ambulance.

“This is great news for the EMS staff of Reade Area Ambulance, and I congratulate them on their successful grant application,” said U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Hollidaysburg.

“Ambulances can run over six figures to buy and many local ambulance companies simply can’t afford to buy them on their own. This grant program makes it possible for our community EMS workers to use current equipment and cut response times with new vehicles.”

April McClellan, a representative of the ambulance association, said the organization is fortunate to have been awarded the grant because there are not enough local resources to fund the emergency vehicle.

The four-wheel drive ambulance will replace a 14-year-old rear-wheel drive unit.
