EBENSBURG — A 63-year-old Johnstown man was sentenced Friday to 10 to 20 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy.
Charles Lee Reynolds, formerly of the 300 block of Conway Court, will be required to register with the state police for the rest of his life as a Megan’s law sex offender, Judge Norman Krumenacker said.
Reynolds, who is represented by David Raho of the public defender’s office, had pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, the most serious charge filed by Johnstown police. Other charges were dropped by prosecutors.
The child’s mother told the judge the boy continues to be in counseling.
City police alleged that in addition to the assault in July 2009, Reynolds used a Taser on the boy.
Julie Wagner, the city police’s juvenile officer who arrested Reynolds, said after the sentencing that the boy has been traumatized by the sex abuse.
“”It would have been a detriment to his well-being if he would have had to testify at trial,” Wagner said. “The district attorney’s office did a great job. It was a good plea.”
Although Reynolds was not found to be a sexually violent predator, the judge imposed strict conditions on when the defendant would be released from state prison, including one that he cannot have any contact with anyone younger than 18 for any reason unless it’s with supervision or with the permission of his parole officer.
Reynolds also would have to:
• Stay at least 500 feet away from areas used by children, including parks, libraries, daycare centers and arcades.
• Not possess a computer or have access to the Internet.
• Not have any children’s books, toys, videos of children or pornography.
