CARROLLTOWN —
The Carolltown fire chief and a state police fire marshal are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a two-story home on Sunset Road near Carrolltown on Monday evening.
Fire Chief Bob Illig said firefighters were able to knock the blaze down quickly. The first floor sustained heavy fire damage, while the remainder of the home received substantial heat and smoke damage, he said. All the contents of the home were destroyed, he said.
No one was at home when the fire broke out, he said. The fire was reported shortly after 6 p.m. by a passing motorist, he said.
The Red Cross was at the scene to assist the family, he said.
Also responding were firefighters from Patton, Hastings and Hope in Northern Cambria, he said.
