NEW: Car found of woman missing since fire in which infant died

STATE COLLEGE — Authorities located a car belonging to a woman who has not been seen since the remains of an infant were found in her burned-out home.

The red Saturn coupe with Virginia license plates belonged to Joey Lynn Offutt, 33. It was found early Monday in State College, about 70 miles east of the home she rented in Sykesville, authorities said.

But Offutt is still missing and investigators are looking for her “out of concern for her welfare,” state police in DuBois said in a statement.

The fire that destroyed Offutt’s home was reported about 4 a.m. Thursday, and the infant’s remains were discovered about an hour later. The identity of the baby was still unknown and autopsy results were not ready, state police Cpl. Janice Bart said Tuesday.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

State police have not disclosed if they believe Offutt and the infant were related. Offutt, who previously lived in Warrenton, Va., did have two children, and both those kids are safe and staying with relatives, Bart said.
