Lynn Redgrave to speak at women’s event

Lynn Redgrave’s battle with breast cancer and other struggles will provide a strong message to promote the mission of the Women’s Help Center to end domestic violence.

The star of stage and screen will be the keynote speaker April 11 at the Women’s Help Center’s 30th Anniversary Dinner.

“She is going to speak about overcoming hurdles and moving forward,” Executive Director Susan Shahade said. “She overcame a lot of obstacles and has worked for mainstream charities that affect everyday people.”

Redgrave, 64, has been nominated twice for an Academy Award. She has appeared in dozens of films and television shows since her film debut in 1963’s “Tom Jones.”

The daughter of Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson is the sister of Vanessa Redgrave and Corin Redgrave. She was nominated in 1966 for a Best Actress Oscar in “Georgie Girl” and in 1999 for Best Supporting Actress in “Gods and Monsters.” She won Golden Globes for both roles. Television appearances have included “Kojak,” “House Calls,” “The Love Boat,” “Rude Awakening” and “Desperate Housewives.”

She wrote “Journal: A Mother and Daughter’s Recovery from Breast Cancer,” with photos by her daughter, Annabel Clark. The book will be for sale at the anniversary dinner, which will include a book-signing.
