Police seek second suspect in break-in

WILMORE — A Vintondale man is in Cambria County Jail on burglary and theft charges and his alleged accomplice remains at large following an early Tuesday break-in at Fox’s Pizza in Wilmore.

Damian Ross McCachran, 20, was one of two chased on foot by state police after neighbors reported a burglary in progress.

According to police, the caller heard glass breaking at the Portage Street business and witnessed people inside using flashlights.

When police arrived, both suspects fled from the restaurant’s side door and a foot pursuit ensued.

McCachran was caught and arraigned in front of District Judge Galen Decort, where he was unable to post $75,000 bail.

Shop owner Kevin Houghton said Tuesday’s incident was the not the first time his establishment has been burglarized. He said a new alarm system was enabled, but the crashing glass alerted neighbors before the system did.

“We just put on a brand new addition,” Houghton said. “We’re still tallying our losses.”

Houghton said police caught the suspects in action as they were trying to walk out with his new 42-inch plasma wall-mount television.

“They were ready to leave with it when the police came,” Houghton said. He said only the damaged television was recovered, and the suspects allegedly made off with an undisclosed amount of beer and a small safe.

“The state police did an outstanding job,” Houghton said. “I’m real pleased with the recovery efforts.”

Houghton said he is hopeful that McCachran’s accomplice will be found.

Troopers were assisted by police officers from South Fork Borough, Cresson Borough and Adams Township.

A preliminary hearing for McCachran has not yet been scheduled.
