Police: Teens broke into store, stole liquor

A West End man has been charged with conspiring with two 15-year-old boys to steal numerous bottles of alcoholic beverages from the Wine and Spirits Shoppe in the West End early Wednesday.

John Kondash, 18, of the 200 block of Decker Avenue, also was charged by the Johnstown police with burglary and other offenses. He was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Michael Musulin, of downtown Johnstown, and lodged in the Cambria County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The criminal complaint said entry to the state store was made by breaking the glass on the front door with a brick.

Numerous bottles of alcoholic beverages then were taken, the complaint said.

Wednesday evening, police were dispatched to a residence in the West End on a report that a boy who ran away from home might be there.

The complaint said the boy was found by an officer before reaching the residence. The officer returned the boy home, where it was discovered that the youth was in possession of four bottles of alcohol.

A short time later, police responded to Kondash’s residence after receiving a report of an underage drinking party there.

Responding officers found several intoxicated juveniles and numerous bottles of alcohol at the residence.
