Suspect in beating turns himself in

BY PATRICK BUCHNOWSKI

SOMERSET — A southern Somerset County man surrendered to authorities on charges he pummeled two people at a Confluence Park.

Trooper Robert Boyle said Ralph William Kemp III, no age given, of Listonburg Road in Confluence allegedly assaulted Kenneth K. King and Brenda Sue Phillipi Sunday night.

Kemp fled the scene before police arrived.

King, 38, of Rockwood and Phillipi, 51, of Markleton, sustained “serious bodily” injuries, troopers said in a court document. The pair were treated at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown and later released, authorities said.

Authorities did not say what prompted the dispute.

Kemp turned himself in and was arraigned Monday by District Judge Arthur Cook of Somerset.

He was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment.

Kemp was sent to the Somerset County Jail after failing to post $20,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing for Kemp is scheduled May 1 before District Judge Sandra Stevanus of Confluence.
