Conemaugh Valley Chapter of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States has begun making plans for its annual sit-down indoor picnic.
The chapter includes Cambria, Somerset and Indiana counties, and total membership is about 110.
The 2008 picnic will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at Richland American Legion Post 849, 390 Oakridge Drive, Richland Township.
The association is made up of those who served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Public Health Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The picnic is open to the general public as well, said Robert Shoup of Upper Yoder Township, chairman of membership and publicity for the chapter.
Shoup is a retired Army warrant officer and a World War II veteran.
He said the reservation deadline for the picnic is Aug. 30. Reservations, at $22 per person, are available by calling Shoup at 255-1400 or Robert S. Baum of Southmont, secretary-treasurer, at 255-6107.
Baum is a retired Army lieutenant colonel.
The picnic fare will feature strip steaks, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, salad, rolls, dessert and coffee or tea. A happy hour will precede the dinner.
The after-dinner program will be short, Shoup noted, adding the guest list is yet to be finalized. More information is available from Shoup.
