NEW – Penn State trustees to vote today on tuition, budget

ERIE — Penn State trustees are meeting in Erie, where they are scheduled to vote this afternoon on tuition rates and the university’s latest budget.

The annual tuition vote comes a week after the General Assembly approved a 1.2 percent increase in state funding for the university system to $338 million. State funding typically makes up less than 10 percent of Penn State’s total budget.

The tuition for resident freshmen and sophomores at Penn State’s main campus in State College this past academic year was roughly $12,200, up more than 5 percent from the 2006-7 academic year.
