In brief: Police on lookout for aggressive drivers


Six area police forces are among 400 municipal police departments that will participate in a statewide effort aimed at increasing seat belt usage between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The Hastings, Patton, Carrolltown, Windber, Paint Township and Somerset police departments also will look for impaired and aggressive drivers during the program, which starts Monday and ends Aug. 17.

Called Operation Nightlife, the program is sponsored by PennDOT.

$900 potty stolen from soccer fields

NEW CENTERVILLE – State police are investigating the theft of a Porta-John between July 21 and 25 from the soccer fields in Milford Township.

The Porta-John, owned by Scotty’s Pottys of Friedens, is valued at $900.

Floral arrangements taken from cemetery

JENNERSTOWN – Three large floral arrangements were stolen from the tops of three tombstones at St. Joseph Cemetery in Jenner Township, state police in Somerset said.

The arrangements had been placed there by a 68-year-old Berlin woman and were taken between July 15 and Friday.

Money reported stolen in Jenner Township

JENNER TOWNSHIP – An unknown sum of money was taken from the residence of Nathaniel Cyril on July 25 between 6 a.m. and 7:45 p.m., said state police in Somerset.

Prescription medicine taken from home

SOMERSET – Prescription medication valued at $50 was stolen Thursday from the home of Dean Allen Yoder in Elk Lick Township, state police said.
