EBENSBURG — A former Navy SEAL who speaks on good character – and who has been featured on The Learning Channel, Discovery Channel and ESPN – will address pupils today at Central Cambria Middle School.
Charlie Aeschliman is considered the best basketball handler in the world and became the Nike National Basketball Handling Champion.
He has entertained audiences throughout the NBA and NCAA arenas and has appeared during the NCAA Final Four Championships.
Aeschliman will speak twice at Central Cambria. His message aims to teach kids to be respectful and not bullies, to appreciate authority and to believe in their dreams.
Police investigating car-pedestrian crash
VINCO – Jackson Township police are investigating a car- pedestrian crash that critically injured a Belsano man who was leaving a bar.
Timothy W. Williamson, 44, and his girlfriend were leaving a bar near Mundys Corner around 9:30 p.m. Friday when they were walking across state Route 271 toward another bar, police said.
Williamson was struck by a 2001 Plymouth driven by Karen Dreikorn, 42, of Vinco, police Chief Robert Fatula said Monday.
Dreikorn reportedly told police she swerved to avoid the woman when she struck Williamson, who was in the roadway, Fatula said.
Williamson was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where he remained hospitalized Monday.
The investigation is continuing, Fatula said.
Commissioners fill transit vacancies
EBENSBURG – Two men have been appointed by the Cambria County commissioners to fill vacancies on the county transit authority.
They are Thomas Chernisky of Geistown, who is one of the county’s part-time jury commissioners, and Timothy L. Whited of Northern Cambria, who is with Al’s Tires of Ebensburg and Northern Cambria.
