County awards contract for paving Somerset airport

By PATRICK BUCHNOWSKI

SOMERSET — A Lackawanna County company was awarded a contract Tuesday for a paving project at the Somerset County Airport.

Axtell’s Paving & Sealing of Jermyn submitted the low bid of $99,585. The job includes work on a football-field size apron where planes are parked.

“Basically they’re going to be doing some paving and sealing the cracks,” Commissioner Chairwoman Pam Tokar-Ickes said. “It’s just part of the regular scope of maintenance.”

The work is expected to be completed by June 21, she said.

“There’s definitely some areas that are in pretty bad shape,” Dave Wright, who manages the facility off Stoystown Road, said in a recent interview.
