This morning, workers from Gallucci Sanitation of Tire Hill will cart away trash from the home of notorious Johnstown bag lady Chandan Vora.
It’s the second time the city has asked for – and received
– permission by the courts to sweep in and clean up her Kernville home.
“The courts are our only option,’’ City Manager Kurt Davis said Wednesday. “We don’t think it’s right the negative impact she has on her neighbors.’’
Vora, 63, stores bagfuls of junk – bottles, cans and miscellaneous other stuff – in her yard, on her roof, wherever there’s an available square inch.
The codes squabble with Vora had been going on for years.
In 2004, her Robb Avenue home was temporarily condemned. City crews wearing space suits found a mess inside the structure including a roach infestation and spoiled food.
Three truckloads of garbage were hauled away.
This go-round, the city’s trash collectors have permission only to clean up the outside.
“Anything that we can we’ll take out to the junkyard to sell for scrap,’’ Davis said. The proceeds will be taken off from a cleanup bill that will be presented to Vora through the courts.
“We have to and will make every effort to be reimbursed,’’ Davis said.
