BERLIN – A Berlin man was charged indecently assaulting two woman at a Berlin tavern late Friday and early Saturday, then breaking into one woman’s home and assaulting her again.
Chad K. Boburchock, 31, of the 800 block of Main Street, was charged by Berlin Borough police. He was arraigned before District Judge Douglas M. Bell of Meyersdale and released on bail. A preliminary hearing was set for May 21.
Both women told police they did not know Boburchock.
According to police, he assaulted the first victim late Friday at a tavern. She sat with friends for a while before going home.
Boburchock approached the second woman around 1:30 a.m. at the same tavern. That woman then left and went to another tavern. Boburchock also went to that establishment and assaulted her there, police said.
She demanded that Boburchock leave her alone and he left the tavern.
He then broke into the first woman’s residence, where he indecently and physically assaulted her, police said. She was able to fight him off, and Boburchock left the residence.
Bull stymies locking
of Amish barns
EBENSBURG – The padlocking of barns on the farms of two Amish couples was delayed again Wednesday because of a problem removing a bull from at least of one of the barns, said Bob Tutko, Cambria County chief deputy sheriff.
Judge Norman Krumenacker had ordered the padlocking of the couples’ homes, outhouses and barns after the couples failed to comply with building and sewage regulations. The homes and outhouses were padlocked Monday, but the locking of the barns was delayed and was to have been done Wednesday afternoon.
Tutko said the locks should be in place by Friday afternoon.
Man ordered to pay
for burned chalet
GREENSBURG – A South Carolina man must pay for a chalet he set on fire near Seven Springs Mountain Resort in 1996.
Brian Ankney, 43, who now lives in Swansea, S.C., pleaded guilty earlier this week.
Police said two female friends kicked Ankney out of a chalet on Jan. 31, 1996, while he was wearing only swim trunks. He broke into a nearby chalet to get out of the cold, police said, then set a fire to warm up. The fire grew out of control and destroyed the building.
Ankney had moved to South Carolina in 1998 while disputing the charges.
He was sentenced to six months in jail, but immediately paroled so he can work to pay off the unspecified damage debt.
Cash, trash can
stolen from business

The burglar entered the building through a side door around 11:30 p.m. Monday.
Proposed alcohol ban
makes national news
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Dave Reed, R-Indiana, has been getting some national media attention on the Fox news network about his proposed legislation to ban the use of welfare and child support money to buy alcohol.
Reed appeared on “Fox and Friends” early Tuesday and later in the day was on “Happy Hour” on the Fox Business Channel.
“This issue is really starting to gain some attention,” Reed said. “I think it resonates with taxpayers, not only in Pennsylvania but nationwide.”
Reed’s bill would amend the state Liquor Code to prohibit the purchase of alcohol with electronic benefit cards.
“You would think it would be common sense, given the fact that child support is meant to be used for the benefit of the child,” Reed was quoted in a release as saying.
“Certainly, you shouldn’t be purchasing alcohol for your child. So, we’re going to go ahead and prohibit that as well.”
