Government contracts were not the only announcements at Showcase for Commerce Friday morning press briefing.

Local companies were also recognized for performance.

An electronic invoicing system developed by Concurrent Technologies Corp. received an Excellence.gov award for acquisition excellence.

GovPay tracks invoices and payments through the workflow process for the Interior Department’s National Business Center, replacing a labor-intensive, paper-based invoicing system.

Agencies saw a decrease in prompt payment penalty claims that saved agencies about $900,000 in 2007 alone, Richard Stegall of the Interior Department said.

“This was a well-executed partnership between industry and the federal government,” Stegall said Friday.

DRS Laurel Technologies and Lockheed Martin were honored, marking the 7,000th combat server suite computer system delivered to the Navy.

The systems have saved taxpayers $1.5 billion over the past 15 years, Rep. John Murtha said Friday. Before the local companies were awarded the computer suite contract, the systems cost $800,000 each. Murtha said DRS was able to replicate the old system for $100,000.

CTC was also recognized by the Army for enrolling in the Partnership for Youth Success Program. The local employer becomes one of 225 companies in the network designed to connect those leaving the Army with new civilian jobs.
