A lightning strike knocked out power for nearly 6,000 customers in the Johnstown area early Saturday, a Penelec spokesman said.
Eight circuits were affected by the strike, which cut off power to customers in Westmont, Upper Yoder Township and the Somerset Pike area, company spokesman Denny Platt said.
The outage lasted about
5 minutes for an estimated 3,700 customers. The rest
were without power for about 35 minutes, Platt said.
ATV crash injures two
JENNERSTOWN – Two adults were injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident Friday, a Somerset County 911 dispatcher said.
A woman, 32, and a man, 34, were hurt in the accident on Beams Church Road, Jenner Township, at 7:21 p.m.
The woman was flown to Memorial Medical Center and the man was transported to Memorial by ambulance.
Additional information was not available Saturday.
Cambria hires firm to check billing
EBENSBURG – The Cambria County commissioners on Friday retained a Johnstown accounting firm to review billing procedures by Internet service providers for the county’s high-speed, wireless data communications services operated by Cambria Connected.
Catanese Group will be paid at the rate of $125 an hour up to a maximum of $4,000.
“We want to be sure we’re getting all the revenues to which we are entitled,” said Kris Segear, the county’s second deputy controller.
About 200 customers are signed up for the service through ISPs, the county has reported.
The county will be focusing on increasing the commercial customers, President Commissioner P. J. Stevens said.
