NEW – Laurel Crest may be sold

By SANDRA K. REABUCK

EBENSBURG — The Cambria County commissioners are expected to take action this afternoon to put Laurel Crest, the county’s nursing home up for sale, The Tribune-Democrat has learned.

The commissioners are holding a special meeting at 4 p.m. today at the courthouse, where a formal vote is likely to be taken.

Prior to the public session, the commissioners are expected to meet privately this afternoon, first with residents of the nursing home and then with employees, to review the situation.

The nursing home has been plagued off-and-on for years with financial difficulties, with a $4.5 million loss last year and an anticipated loss of at least $2 million this year.

The options other then selling the nursing home are to close it down or raise taxes.
