Suspect jailed in shooting

By PATRICK BUCHNOWSKI

A Johnstown man has been accused of firing a weapon in

the area of Prospect Homes complex on June 22.

The bullet shattered a window of a car with children inside, authorities said.

William Katrell Herring II, 23, was charged with possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment, flight to avoid apprehension, disorderly conduct and discharging a firearm.

In a court document, Johns-town police said they were called to a disturbance involving 10 men in the Prospect Homes area.

Herring is alleged to have pulled a handgun and shot at

one of

the men involved in the distur-bance.

The round shattered the back window of a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier on Gray Avenue, police said.

Three children, ages 6, 8 and 9, and the driver escaped injury, police said.

Herring was arraigned Thursday by District Judge Michael Musulin of Johnstown, the on-call magistrate.

Herring was sent to the Cambria County Prison after fail-

ing to post $50,000 percentage bond.

Herring was not permitted to be at the public housing complex, which is operated by the Johnstown Housing Authority, because of past trouble, police said.
