POLICE REPORT | Meyersdale fire was arson, police say


MEYERSDALE – A house fire early Sept. 19 has been ruled arson, state police said Thursday.

No one was hurt in the blaze at 6407 Cumberland Highway in Southampton Township. Damage was estimated at $75,000.

The victims were listed as Duane D. Huffman, 44, of Meyersdale, and Katherine K. Huffman, 41, of Brandon, Fla.

Anyone with information may call the police at 445-4104.

Indiana woman

charged in robbery

An Indiana woman was charged with robbery after a theft at a Co Go’s convenience store on Route 422 in Shelocta, state police in Indiana said Tuesday.

Police said Lane Shelstad, 26, entered the store at 2 a.m.

Sept. 7 wearing a mask and gloves. She demanded cash and cigarettes, then fled on foot after receiving them from a clerk, police said.

Shelstad was apprehended and placed in the Indiana County Jail in lieu of the $75,000 bond set by District Judge George Thachik of Clymer.

Thief hits golf ball

Someone pried open a golf ball-dispensing machine at Har-Tee’s Driving Range, removed the money-collection unit and fled.

The loss was estimated at $1,095 in currency and stolen equipment, said state police in Indiana.

The theft occurred between Monday afternoon and Tuesday afternoon on Indian Springs Road in White Township.
