In brief: Wireless tower added

EBENSBURG — A 19th tower is being added to Cambria County’s wireless communications network to improve emergency radio transmissions in areas of Johnstown’s 8th Ward and Walnut Grove, Oakland and Ferndale.

The commissioners approved a 20-year lease with Ted and Keith Krouse to erect the tower on property they own on Wertz Hill in Stonycreek Township for $500 a month.

The increased coverage through the tower should clear up some dead and bad zones for radio transmissions, Brian Feist, emergency management services director, said.

Feist said that extender equipment will be installed at the Portage Borough building soon to provide additional coverage for public safety radios in police cruisers, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles.
