In brief: Car wash offers free service for vets

EBENSBURG — Magic Touch Car Wash, 179 Mini Mall Road, will honor veterans by giving free car washes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

Veterans need only advise staff that they are vets to get the free service. This is the second year the car wash has offered the service.

Church seminar focuses on veterans, families

Registration must be made by Thursday to attend a seminar to assist churches in ministering to the needs of veterans and their families before and after deployments.

The seminar, “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon,” will be held from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Westmont Presbyterian Church, 601 Luzerne St.

The event is free and open to the public. To register, call the church at 536-0796.

Max Furman, a Pennsylvania National Guard chaplain, will be the keynote speaker.

Free flu shots available Friday

A free seasonal flu shot clinic will begin at 4 p.m. Friday in the Central Park Complex, 110 Franklin St., in downtown Johnstown.

The public clinic will be conducted by Cambria County Emergency Management, with volunteers from the county’s medical reserve corps and local college and university health-care programs.

There will be 1,000 adult vaccines and 300 pediatric doses available, said Ron Springer, emergency management director.

Participants should enter from the county-owned parking lot on the Washington Street side of the building.

Former boro official’s hearing postponed

HASTINGS – David Suchar’s preliminary hearing, scheduled for Tuesday before District Judge Michael Zungali, has been postponed until Dec. 17.

Suchar, the Northern Cambria official charged with forgery and stealing about $85,000 in goods and cash from the borough, has been fired as streets commissioner and supervisor of the borough’s water authorities.
