EXPORT — A western Pennsylvania man faces a preliminary hearing next month on charges he drove drunk – on a lawn tractor on his way to buy more beer at a store.
State police say 63-year-old Ford Earl Broome, of Export, was stopped by a state trooper on Sept. 6 about 8 p.m.
The trooper says Broome was stopped on a highway near a tavern and smelled of alcohol and otherwise looked drunk. Police say Broome at first denied drinking, then acknowledged he “drank a little” before he mounted the tractor to drive to the bar to buy more beer.
Police say Broome’s blood-alcohol content was about double the state’s legal limit for drivers.
Broome did not immediately return a call for comment Friday. His preliminary hearing is Dec. 14.
