NEW – Family of 3 rescued from Loyalhanna Lake


NEW ALEXANDRIA — Emergency crews say a family of three is safe after their boat capsized on a lake about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh.

New Alexandria fire Lt. Chuck Ferry says the family had to be rescued about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Ferry says the a husband, wife and their teenage daughter were fishing on Loyalhanna Lake when their boat capsized. They had life preservers on board, but were not wearing them when rescue crews arrived to pull them from the chilly water.

Ferry says the family was likely in the water for about 20 minutes before they were rescued.

Officials have not released the names of the family.
