NEW – New York trucker dead after I-80 crash near Mercer

MERCER — A New York trucker has been killed in a rollover crash on Interstate 80 in western Pennsylvania.

State police in Mercer say 40-year-old Piotr Babiarz, of Middle Village, N.Y. crashed about 7 p.m. Tuesday in Findley Township. That’s about 20 miles from the Ohio border.

Police say the trucker was in the eastbound passing lane hauling sheet steel on a flatbed trailer when he somehow lost control of the truck and drove into the grassy median. The tractor rolled onto its top, trapping the driver, who was pronounced dead by the Mercer County coroner at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved and nobody else was hurt.
