Pittsburgh charter flight makes emergency landing in Kan. after plane loses engine

WICHITA, Kan. — A charter plane from Pittsburgh made an emergency landing Wednesday night in Kansas after losing an engine.

Allegiant Air spokeswoman Sabrina LoPiccolo says the MD-80 was carrying 125 passengers to Laughlin, Nev., and had stopped at Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita to refuel.

LoPiccolo says the plane had resumed its flight when passengers heard a loud boom at about 15,000 feet and the pilot returned to Wichita.

She says one person was slightly injured while coming down the plane’s slide. She didn’t know details of the injury but says it was minor. Most passengers used the plane’s stairs.

Officials believe the left engine failed; LoPiccolo says there was no indication of a fire.
