WINDBER — Joseph Huff enjoyed learning about Paint Township’s operations by stopping in at the municipal building across from his Basin Drive home.
Now it looks as though he’ll be part of the team leading those operations. Huff garnered at least 255 write-in votes for Paint Township supervisor in the
Nov. 3 election.
It was enough to make him the apparent winner of the seat being vacated by longtime Supervisor Kenneth Holsopple, said Tina Pritts, Somerset County’s director of elections.
“I have been looking into this for a while,” Huff said. “I know what’s going on in the township and try to keep myself informed.”
Huff pledged to move forward with ongoing projects to extend public sewage service to additional areas of the township.
He knows there will be many challenges.
“I think in the future, we will probably be going to have discussions on the fire companies serving the township,” Huff said. “I think that is going to be an issue.”
Holsopple, 81, is retiring after about 14 years as supervisor. He previously served as a township auditor for 12 years.
“One big accomplishment was the new building,” he said.
The $500,000 municipal building was completed in 2004.
“I tried to take care of things,” Holsopple said of his years serving the township.
