Two honored at pageant
Two local young women took honors Saturday in the Pennsylvania Outstanding Young Women contest.
Ashley Kaufman, representing Somerset County, was named first runner-up. She is the daughter of Ronald and Shari Kaufman of Somerset.
Ashlea Krupa, representing Cambria County, won the Keystone Award and the scholastic achievement award. She is the daughter of Eugene and Christine Krupa of Richland Township.
The winner for 2010 is Diamante White, 17, a Reading High School senior representing Berks County.
The scholarship program recognizes and rewards high school seniors who have excelled scholastically and in their communities.
Five categories are judged in the competition: Scholarship and achievement, interview, performing arts, aerobics and fitness, and presence and presentation.

NEW – Handyman guilty on all counts
A Cambria County jury took only an hour this afternoon to convict the handyman of an elderly woman guilty on all 18 counts of theft by deception for misappropriating $668,518 from the victim, who had considered him like a son from 2000 to early 2008.

The Power of 32 muscled into Somerset County on Tuesday.
Power of 32 is a “regional visioning initiative” involving counties in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and West Virginia. The goal is to form a regional plan that includes strengthening the economy and creating jobs. - More Local News Headlines
