Chiefs ask fans to donate bandages

By TED POTTS

Fans attending the Dec. 18 hockey game between the Johnstown Chiefs and Toledo Walleye are asked to bring a box of cartoon-themed adhesive bandages for Brent’s Band-Aids.

The charity was started in the summer by 7-year-old Brent Swaltek of Windber, who was diagnosed with leukemia in July.

Brent’s Band-Aids collects cartoon-themed adhesive bandages for Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. To date, Brent has donated more than 1,000 boxes of bandages, said Ray Schmitt, the Chiefs director of communications and customer relations.

The Chiefs will provide one free child’s ticket for admission to the Dec. 18 game at Cambria County War Memorial Arena for each box of

cartoon adhesive bandages donated, Schmitt said.

The team also has issued a sell-out challenge for the game. If attendance reaches or exceeds 3,880, fans will be allowed to use their tickets to select free admission to one

of three future Chiefs home games that the team will announce, probably starting Dec. 19, Schmitt said.

The Dec. 18 game will start at 7:05 p.m.
