Western Pa. hunter dies of heart attack near N.Y. border

COUDERSPORT — A coroner says a western Pennsylvania hunter has died of a heart attack in the woods of north-central Pennsylvania, near the New York border.

Potter County Coroner Kevin Dusenbery says 43-year-old John Patrick Welch, of Hunker, died while hunting with a muzzleloader.

Searchers found Welch’s body Sunday night in the woods of Hebron Township, near Coudersport. That’s just a few miles south of the New York border.

Welch had been staying in Olean, N.Y. and was reported missing Saturday by a friend when he didn’t return.
