SOMERSET — A suburban Pittsburgh man has been charged with simple assault and terroristic threats following an attack on a 28-year-old woman.
State police said Paul Edward Sigmund, 37, of Bethel Park assaulted the woman Friday evening at a residence on Craighead Road, Jefferson Township.
According to police, Sigmund choked the woman, tossed her to the ground and threw a laptop computer at her head. He then kicked her in the head, according to police.

• State troopers are looking for two people in an attempted theft at Portage Auto Wreckers, 3734 Portage St. in Portage Township, about 5 p.m. Friday.
The suspects are described as a man in his 20s, about 5-foot 7 with a thin build. The female accomplice also was in her 20s. Police said their car was a 1992 to 1994 white Chevy Lumina with damage to the front end, including a broken left headlight and a banged-up hood and grille.
The pair tried to steal auto parts from the company.
• Two boys who fled from the Children’s Aid Home, 1476 N. Center Ave. in Somerset Township, have been returned.
Police said a 15- and a 16-year-old left the home about 4:30 p.m. New Year’s Day. They were located a short time later and committed back to the facility, state police said. Both were charged with disorderly conduct.
• Two tires were cut overnight Thursday into Friday.
State police said the tires were slashed at the Center Street, Boswell, residence of Gary Albright, 36. Damage was set at $200.
• Someone entered a Blandburg home Friday and stole a Kel-Tec .380 semi-automatic handgun.
State police said the firearm was in an unlocked gun safe in the bedroom of Sean Hauser, 151 Post Office Road.
