A coroner says a 30-year-old Indiana County man has been killed by a large tree branch that hit him in the head as he and a relative struggled to free a chain saw.
Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker says the incident happened about 2:15 p.m. Sunday in Armstrong Township, about 35 miles northwest of Johnstown.
That’s where the victim, Jason William Drew was using an extended chain saw to cut the branch about 18 feet off the ground. When the chain saw got wedged in the tree, Drew and his uncle attached a chain to the limb and tried to free the saw by using a tractor to pull on the branch.
Instead, the branch snapped and hit Drew in the head, killing him.
The coroner has ruled the death an accident.
