Bids awarded for upgrades in Brownstown, South Fork and Revloc

EBENSBURG — The Cambria County Redevelopment Authority on Thursday awarded bids for three playground projects, a stormwater extension and water main replacement.

An Apollo-based company, Sports & Recreation Associates LLC, was awarded bids for playground improvements in Brownstown, South Fork and Revloc.

Improvements to the Kartes Street playground in Brownstown will cost $51,240.

Funding will come from the state’s Community Development Block Grant stimulus money and a state Growing Greener 2 Recreation Development grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Work will involve installation of playground equipment and removal of the existing equipment.

Similar work to the Children’s Library Park in South Fork will cost $36,460 with funding from the same sources as Brownstown, authority Executive Director Larry Custer said.

New play equipment and handicapped accessibility for the Revloc Park Playground in Cambria Township will cost $68,099.

A walking trail also will be built, Custer said.

Block grant funds to Adams Township will cover the $102,444 cost of extending storm sewers along Crown Street in Sidman.

Low bidder is Claycomb Excavating of New Enterprise, which will install nearly 2,000 feet of 15-inch storm sewer line and 18 inlets, Custer said.

CDBG money also will pay for replacement of an antiquated, patched-together water line in Cresson Township.

Low bidder Burket Contractors Inc., of Hollidaysburg will do the work for $79,266.

The work will involve 935 feet of 8-inch water main, one fire hydrant and eight service connections.

Cresson Township engineer Rich Wray said the project will replace 2-inch galvanized pipe that he described as a “mishmash,” in an area along Admiral Peary Highway west of Sheetz.

“This will allow for future development. The area is not very developed, but this (water line) will provide some future options,” Wray said.
