SOMERSET —
An arrest warrant has been issued for Samuel McFarland Jr., 33, of Berlin Street in Garrett in connection with Saturday’s robbery of two boys outside Dollar General on East Main Street in Somerset.
The warrant was issued by Somerset District Judge Ken Johnson based upon a criminal complaint and affidavit of probable cause filed by Somerset Officer Eric Grus.
Two 17-year-old males were waiting outside the store for a friend to arrive when McFarland approached.
He initially asked for a cigarette and then for money. One boy told him he did not have any money and McFarland then said he had a gun and would shoot him if he did not turn over his money, according to borough police.
McFarland then reached into the juvenile’s pockets and took $13 cash, a pack of cigarettes and a cellphone. He struck the juvenile in the abdomen and threatened to kill him if he contacted police.
McFarland made a buddy’s girlfriend drive off with him in the back seat while his friend remained in the store.
McFarland is charged with two counts of robbery, disorderly conduct and harassment and one count each of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, simple assault, terroristic threats and criminal mischief.
Anyone with any information on McFarland’s whereabouts is asked to call police at 445-1525.
“These are serious charges and Mr. McFarland has demonstrated that, as long as he not in custody, he represents a very real threat to the community,” borough police Chief Randy Cox said in a release.
“We would like to be able to place him in custody as soon as possible.”
