Although some preliminary site work may begin later this spring, construction of CamTran’s new operations center may be delayed a few weeks while leaders look for additional savings.
Cambria County Transit Authority reviewed bids at a workshop session Thursday, but won’t be ready to award any contracts at this morning’s regular board meeting, Chairman Ed Cernic Jr. said at the workshop.
The estimated $18 million project was divided into nine components, with bids collected for site preparation, general trades work, precast concrete, glass, elevator, plumbing, electrical, fire protection and heating/ventilation/air conditioning.
Because the fire protection and precast concrete contracts each attracted only one bidder, Cernic said those two components may be rebid.
“We are also looking at the HVAC bid,” he added.
CamTran officials will review the proposals with PennDOT next week, Cernic said. While the state may have some suggestions, Cernic does not anticipate any setbacks there.
“We will not be able to start anything until after we get approval from PennDOT,” he said.
The proposed facility includes administrative offices, indoor bus storage areas, a bus wash and maintenance facility.
Plans show it will virtually fill the 400 block of Maple Avenue.
