— Thief grabs items worth hundreds

MEYERSDALE – State police said Monday they are looking for whoever entered a commercial building under construction at North and Center streets in Meyersdale and stole $333 worth of items between 8 p.m. Feb. 9 and 11 a.m. Feb. 10.

Churches offer Lenten dinners, talks

PATTON – “Wilderness Time” will be the theme for a series of soup and sandwich dinners to be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays during Lent in the Patton area.

The dinners will be hosted by a different church each week, and the minister of each church will offer a talk on the topic.

The schedule is:

Today: Patton Presbyterian Church.

Feb. 26: SS. Peter & Paul Church.

March 5: Trinity Anglican Church (at United Methodist church).

March 12: Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

March 19: Patton United Methodist Church.

March 26: Calvary Baptist Church.

Novelist to read from latest work

LORETTO – “An Evening with Jennifer Haigh” will be presented at 8 this evening in the John F. Kennedy Student Center lounge on the campus of St. Francis University, Loretto.

Haigh, a novelist and Northern Cambria native, will read from her latest book of short stories, “News from Heaven,” which is set in Bakerton.

The book was reviewed in the New York Times.

Haigh’s other books include “Faith,” “The Condition,” “Baker Towers” and “Mrs. Kimble.”

She is the daughter of Elizabeth Wasilko of Northern Cambria and the late Jay Wasilko.

A reception and book signing will follow. Admission is free.
