Ohio trucker dies in Route 22 crash

ARMAGH – A Cleveland trucker was killed when his tractor-trailer crashed shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday on Route 22 east of Armagh.

Farrell Isom, 43, was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:58 p.m., said Cambria County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeffrey Lees.

The cause of death was multiple upper torso injuries, Lees said. The manner of death was ruled accidental.

Isom was westbound and hauling 37,000 pounds of bananas when his rig went off the roadway, struck guardrails and went over a 30-foot embankment, Lees said. It is not clear why the experienced driver went off the roadway, he said.

Isom had cocaine in his system and a blood-alcohol content of 0.01 percent, Lees said.

The legal driving limit is  0.08 percent.

City man charged with trying to lure girl

A Johnstown man was charged Thursday with trying to lure a girl into his vehicle a day earlier in Hornerstown.

Sean Dwayne Andrews, 41, of the 600 block of Sherman Street, was charged by the city police before District Judge Michael Musulin of Johnstown.

Andrews was arraigned by Musulin on Thursday evening and lodged in the Cambria County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Police said Andrews was in a vehicle on Ash Street when he asked a 9-year-old girl to get in the car. The girl ran home and told her mother.

Andrews was charged in April with trying to lure a 16-year-old girl into his vehicle in Kernville. That charge was withdrawn at the preliminary hearing, but two other charges filed in the same case – resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license – were sent to Cambria County court. That case has not been adjudicated.

Truck spills logs, closes Route 160

EBENSBURG – Route 160, New Germany Road, at the intersection of Mini Mall Road was closed for 21⁄4 hours Thursday afternoon when a logging truck overturned and spilled its load.

State police said Mark J. Krumenacker, 50, of Carrolltown, was attempting to make a left turn from Route 160 onto Mini Mall Road when the truck rolled onto its side. There were no injuries, police said.

Lane changes planned on Route 22

EBENSBURG – Westbound traffic on Route 22 from Wilmore Road to Pensacola Road will be switched from a right-lane closure to a left-lane closure on Saturday, PennDOT said.

Overall work on the $8.1 million project consists of long-term lane closures for concrete patching, paving, drainage and guiderail upgrades on that stretch of Route 22.

The project also includes rehabilitation of two structures and work on the routes 22-219 interchange ramps.

Along with the long-term closures, there will be intermittent nighttime traffic restrictions to perform some operations.

All work is expected to be completed by mid-October.

Grannas Bros. Stone & Asphalt Co. is the prime contractor.
