JOHNSTOWN —
A Bedford County man wanted in North Carolina on attempted homicide charges has been moved to Cambria County Prison.
Prison authorities took Peter Donald Huff, 68, of Alum Bank, to prison Wednesday night after he was released from Memorial Medical Center.
Huff had been in the hospital since Monday, when he crashed his pickup in Johnstown during a police chase.
He is being held on $100,000 percentage bond.
Even if he posts bond, Huff won’t be released because authorities in North Carolina have a detainer.
It remains unclear when he will be returned to North Carolina to face charges related to the brutal beating of his elderly aunt and uncle.
“We’re waiting to see if he will waive extradition,” Buncombe County Detective Kevin Briggs said.
Huff is accused of beating and robbing Harold and Victoria Huff, both in their 80s, inside their home in the Asheville, N.C., area.
Harold Huff was beaten with a short-handled sledgehammer and was knocked unconscious, authorities said.
Victoria Huff was found in the garage lying in a pool of blood.
They remain in an Asheville hospital, Briggs said.
North Carolina authorities charged Huff with two counts of attempted murder and armed robbery.
He also faces a rash of local charges stemming from Monday’s crash.
