Woman dies of exposure after car gets stuck in swampy area

TITUSVILLE — State police believe a woman died of exposure along a northwestern Pennsylvania road after her car got stuck in a ditch and she fell into a swampy area nearby.

Final autopsy findings were still pending Monday on 25-year-old Ashley Maine of Springcreek Township, Warren County. But state police say it appears she was drinking before her car got stuck in a ditch either late Thursday or early Friday morning in Southwest Township, near Titusville. That’s about 85 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Police say they were able to follow Maine’s tracks back to her car which was found disabled. Her path took her through a swampy area where it appears she fell and got wet which contributed to her death.

Police say toxicology tests are pending.
