STORM UDATE – 65,000 still without power in Pa. this morning
PITTSBURGH — Leftover snow from the weekend’s massive winter storm was still causing problems across Pennsylvania, closing schools and slowing commutes on a wide swath from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia.
Scores of schools closed Monday in western Pennsylvania and Allegheny Power reported about 65,000 customers remained without electricity as of 6:30 a.m.
Most schools in the Cambria-Somerset region are closed or running on a delayed start.
Philadelphia’s public and Roman Catholic schools were closed, keeping about 200,000 students home as residents tried to dig out.
A disaster emergency declared Saturday remains in effect, with the National Guard dispatched to Allegheny County to help clear streets and roads.
Mass transit in the state’s two largest cities was mostly back to normal Monday, with service set to resume on many bus routes in Pittsburgh by rush hour.
