Two teens accused in Portage arson

PORTAGE — Two 15-year old boys face arson charges following a Tuesday night fire which damaged the 100-year-old Century Ribbon Mill, police said Friday.

The charges were filed in the form of juvenile allegations before the Cambria County Juvenile Probation Office, Portage police Chief Ed Miller said.

The boys were on the scene when firefighters began to arrive shortly before 11 p.m.

“They were attempting to put the fire out,” he said.

The ribbon mill, also know as Antmart, on Farren Street, is the property of the Hollidaysburg-based Allegheny Ridge Corp.

Miller said the charges were filed on a verbal ruling from the state police fire marshal that the blaze was arson.

A written report is expected in a few weeks.
